August 2019

Dear Atherwood Families,

Welcome, All-Stars, to an exciting year at Atherwood Elementary! I look forward to continuing to serve as Atherwood’s Principal. It is my number one priority at Atherwood to ensure that every student receives a high-quality education in an environment where they know they are valued, encouraged, and have a special place in our school. I believe that there is no greater trust a parent can place in others than that of educating their child and I will do my best for each and every one of our kids.

This year promises to be one of growing, learning, and gaining new experiences. I want to highlight some amazing changes taking place this Summer that add to the wonderful aesthetics here at Atherwood:

  • New flexible seating in every classroom on campus.

  • The library has been revitalized to have soft, inviting seating for reading.

  • The 500 building, which is the original building on the school site, was revitalized as part of the Measure X Bond project.

  • Our outdated computer lab has been converted into a new MakerSpace area, with hands-on engineering equipment for students.

  • A new electronic marquee and the new mural at the front of the school.

  • Banners were ordered and hung in the breezeways that highlight the paradigms of "Leader in Me."

We are excited to continue partnering with our parents, students, and community on our journey as a "Leader in Me" school, and to work together to help students thrive. Our goal is to empower students with the academic, leadership, and life skills they need to be successful. We believe that:

  1. Everyone can be a leader.

  2. Everyone has genius.

  3. Change starts with me.

  4. Educators empower students to lead their own learning.

  5. We develop the whole person.
