August 2018

Dear Atherwood Families,

It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself as the new principal at Atherwood Elementary School. I am honored to have been selected to join Atherwood with its history of excellence. My passion for education and student achievement has been formed over my last thirteen years in public education. I am a proud K-12 product of the Simi Valley Unified School District and have spent 12 years of my career serving Simi students. I began my journey at Valley View Middle School as an English teacher in 2005. I then taught at Simi Valley High School, was an Assistant Principal at Royal High School and Valley View Middle School, and then served as the Coordinator of Curriculum and Assessment at the District Office. I spent the last year as the Director of Instructional Support for the Oxnard Union High School District, training 800 teachers and coordinating curriculum and testing for the district. It was a wonderful learning experience, but I was absolutely thrilled at the opportunity to come back to my hometown and for the opportunity to serve students, parents, and teachers as principal at Atherwood Elementary.

The need to be closer to my home, my family, and my hometown is the driving force behind my decision to apply for and accept the position at Atherwood. I have been married to a wonderful man named Carlos for almost five years and we have an energetic son named Antonio, who will be four in September and lives every day to its fullest.

As an advocate of students, I will spend time getting to know our students, their learning styles, and interests. It is my number one priority at Atherwood to ensure that every student receives a high-quality education in an environment where they know they are valued, encouraged, and have a special place in our school. I believe that there is no greater trust a parent can place in others than that of educating their child and I will do my best for each and every one of our kids.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me anytime at
